According to a new study by Motorola and Nancy Etcoff - an expert from Harvard University, 65% of Indians described their smart phones as their best friend. The study found that India topped the list in terms of dependency on smart phones.

India is ahead of the world in smart phone dependence, the study observed.

"Globally, approximately 50% people agreed that they check their phone more often than they would like and nearly 44% felt compelled to perpetually check their phones. India figures at the top with 65% and 57% respectively," said the study.

The study found that 47% of India's younger generation care more for their smart phones than engaging with the ones they love. Additionally, 64% of Indians in the study said that they needed help with phone-life balance - defined by Motorola as the desire to have a technology to support lives without becoming the centre of it.

As per the study, Indians are overly dependent on their smart phones. The study also found that Indians top the chart when it comes to emotional dependence on their smart phones.

77% of Indians in the study admitted that they panic when they lose their smart phones and 53% confessed that they'd be happier if they spent less time on their smart phones.

India figures at the top with 48% and 55% respectively. Further to this, 53% Indians said that they would be happier if they spent less time on their smart phones. Nearly, 65% people panic when they think they have lost their smart phone. “India stands at the top in emotional overdependence of phone with 77% of respondents admitting that they panic when they lose their phone,” the study said.

Even while not using their smart phones, 46% Indians said they were thinking about using it the next time they get a chance to check their devices.
